Jalen Jordan Brings West Coast Soul to CULTIVATION
After recently sitting down with Jalen Jordan for Trackstarz’s Independent Artist Spotlight, I spent the weekend listening to all six songs on his newly released EP, CULTIVATION. Hearing the full project gave me another way to connect with the artist behind our conversation and appreciate the musical identity he’s developing.
Jalen’s West Coast roots come through in a sound that fits naturally alongside the soulful artists associated with that region. That familiar vibe provides a welcoming foundation for his approach to Christian music, giving the project a sense of personality and place.
One of the things I enjoyed most was his melodic flow and subtle approach to his sound. His delivery complements the production, allowing the vocals and music to work together. That understated quality was a significant part of the appeal for me. I appreciated the way his melodies fit into the songs and contributed to the overall feel of the project.
My favorite track was “Where You Are,” featuring Su-Chi, followed closely by “Thank God,” featuring Jx.Zero. Those were my personal standouts across the six songs and the two I would point listeners toward first. They became the highlights of a listening experience in which Jalen’s melodic sensibility and soulful style especially connected with me.
Within Christian music, CULTIVATION offers a reminder of the value of individual musical identity. Jalen brings his West Coast influences and subtle delivery into that space, giving listeners a way to connect with faith-centered music through a sound that feels rooted in his own artistic perspective.
Having recently spoken with him, I appreciated following that conversation with time spent listening to the complete EP. Our Independent Artist Spotlight offered an introduction to Jalen Jordan as a person. CULTIVATION gave me an opportunity to appreciate his artistry—and his melodic flow, understated approach, and connection to the production made that time worthwhile.
